What a week for trailers it's been - we've seen glimpses of next summer's tentpole films such "The Dark Knight Rises," "The Avengers" and now, "The Amazing Spider-Man."
Sony/Columbia Pictures has released the first long-awaited teaser trailer for the superhero film at Comic-Con and we're betting there were certainly lots of nerdgasms.
Initially, a fourth entry of the franchise was planned for release this year but plans were scrapped when director Sam Raimi's withdrew from the project.
Studio brass soon announced that the blockbuster franchise would be rebooted with an all-new director (Marc Webb - "(500) Days of Summer") and cast.
Andrew Garfield, breakout star of "The Social Network" stars as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, Emma Stone ("Easy A")is his love interest Gwen Stacy and Rhys Ifans will star as villain The Lizard.
Based on the legendary comic book character, "Spider-Man" centers on a bookworm who is bitten by a radioactive spider and acquires the agility and proportionate strength of a spider. Once he discovers his powers, he uses them as a superhero.
As for teh trailer? It's certainly dark and brooding along the lines of a Batman film. Parker comes off as tormented and disturbed. Will fans welcome that?
Also noteworthy is that Parker employs the use of web-slingers. In the prior films, the webs that Spidey slung were organic to his DNA. Here, as in the comic, the webhead has to make them.
