Bandon, OR —
Brianna Do and Marissa Dodd both posted 2 & 1 victories in Friday's semifinals to advance to the final of the U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship. Do knocked off Annie Park in the first semifinal match. Do bested Stephanie Kono, 2-up, in Friday's quarterfinals, but Park knocked out the stroke-play medalist Cheyenne Woods, the niece of former No. 1 Tiger Woods.
Dodd beat Tiffany Lua in the semifinals after Dodd took out Scotland's Sally Watson, 1-up, Friday morning.
"It's wonderful. It's crazy," Dodd said in a televised interview. "I can't believe it. It's all been so much fun throughout the whole thing. I can't wait for tomorrow."
It was a windy day at the Old Macdonald course at Bandon Dunes, but all players endured as best they could.
Dodd fell 2-down to Lua after the first two holes, but squared the match by the seventh hole. She won eight and nine to move 2-up, but after a par at 12, Dodd was 3-up.
Lua chipped away at the lead with wins at the 13th and 15th, but Dodd capitalized on a disastrous 16th by Lua to go 2-up with two to play.
Lua had a five-foot birdie look at the 17th, but pushed the putt. She conceded the match to Dodd on that green to set up Dodd's date with Do in the 36-hole final.
"Go in, play smart, have fun," Dodd said of her strategy on Saturday. "I'm playing the golf course, not the opponent."
Do was in command through the front nine Friday. She built as much as a 2-up lead, but Park won the sixth and knotted the match with a par and a win at the 10th.
The contest remained all-square until Do made birdie at the 14th. She moved 2- up with a bogey at 16 when all Park could manage was a double-bogey. The match was over when both parred the 17th.
