The LOs Angeles Police Department made a wise choice. Over 30 celebrities responded to their earnest plea to send out Twitter messages urging Californians to avoid the 405 Freeway when Carmageddon dooms this weekend, closing down the most clogged freeway system in the city, all the way from the Hollywood Hills to the 10 Santa Monica Freeway.
Thanks to the celebrities' efforts, more than 100 million followers on Twitter were made aware of the world's largest traffic jam, and hopefully, will continue to stay home.
Ramps to the normally clogged Interstate 405 began shutting down Friday evening before the entire roadway was closed at midnight, reports the Associated Press.
The 53-hours blockage of the 10 miles stretch of Interstate 405 is feared for causing a great deal of chaos and accidents. "If you think it's bad now, let me just make something absolutely clear: on July 16th and 17th, it will be an absolute nightmare," said Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.
With the celebrities' warning messages, hopefully the worst scenario can be avoided.
