NEW YORK -- Popular searches on the Internet today include Spotify, after the European cloud-based music service launched in the U.S. on Thursday. Spotify uses high speed Internet to allow users to stream music from their catalog of more than 15 million songs instead of keeping songs on their personal devices.
The service is reportedly the first to allow users to listen to any song at any time for free. The free plan is invite-only right now but should be opened to anyone in a few weeks. The move has some wondering if Spotify could be the Apple iTunes killer.

Rebekah Brooks is trending since the announcement that she has resigned. The News International chief executive's resignation comes amid an ongoing phone-hacking scandal involving the newspaper she edited, forcing the 168-year old publication to ultimately fold.
News Corp, CEO Rupert Murdoch, who owns News International, publicly backed Brooks in the past week as allegations were made against her. Murdoch, his son James, chairman of News International, and Brooks are all expected to testify before British parliamentary committees on Tuesday.
Another hot trend is "stress tests" ahead of the European Union-wide banking stress tests on Friday. European shares drifted lower Friday morning as investors awaited the results of the tests. The results are expected to show that lenders need to raise more capital to withstand a continued recession. Some have criticized the tests, saying they do not take the effects of Greek sovereign debt default into account.
