Rodney King, whose videotaped 1991 beating by police and their subsequent acquittal sparked the Los Angeles riots the following year, was arrested Tuesday afternoon, suspected of driving under the influence in Moreno Valley.
Police stopped King, 46, driving his 1994 Mitsubishi about 3 p.m. on Frederick Street near the Moreno Valley Town Center, according to a police report.
Police said King was driving erratically. He was taken into custody at the Moreno Valley police station where he was evaluated for possible intoxication.
King was later arrested on suspicion of DUI of drugs or alcohol. He was booked at Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside.
In 2007, King, who lives in Rialto, reported being shot with a spray of shotgun pellets when someone tried to steal his bicycle while he was riding home. He was also convicted of DUI for a 2003 stop in Rialto where he was found driving under the influence of PCP.
