The Transportation Safety Administration (TSA) has released an alarming new security threat last week. Unfortunately, this new threat as well as how it will be combated raises more question than there are adequate answers.
Although the public has been told that it does not relate to “any specific or imminent threat,” foreign security agencies are being encouraged to take additional security precautions.
Intelligence reports have suggested that terrorists may be trying to surgically implant explosive devices within the bodies of suicide bombers.
The agency is warning travelers to expect unusual reactions from security personnel as it is their intention to display unpredictable behavior.
“Measures may include interactions with passengers, in addition to the use of other screening methods such as pat-downs and the use of enhanced tools and technologies.” A TSA spokesman said.
According to Homeland Security, the al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula has come up with a means of disguising these explosive devices inside of suicide bombers.
The TSA issued an official statement.
"TSA recently briefed air carriers and foreign partners to provide greater insights into recent intelligence indicating the continued interest of terrorists to target aviation. Due to the significant advances in global aviation security in recent years, terrorist groups have repeatedly and publicly indicated interest in pursuing ways to further conceal explosives.
As a precaution, passengers flying from international locations to U.S. destinations may notice additional security measures in place. These measures are designed to be unpredictable, so passengers should not expect to see the same activity at every international airport. Measures may include interaction with passengers, in addition to the use of other screening methods such as pat-downs and the use of enhanced tools and technologies.
