BOSTON, June 22, 2011 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Carbonite Inc., a leading provider of online backup solutions which provides customers with "anytime, anywhere access" to their stored files, today announced that David Friend, the company's CEO and co-founder, has been honored as the 2011 Information Technology Executive of the Year by The American Business Awards. Friend was announced as the 2011 winner at the annual American Business Awards Gala, which took place Monday, June 20, at the Marriott Hotel in New York City.
Friend's vision and leadership have consistently driven the Carbonite team to develop industry-leading online backup solutions for both consumer and small-business audiences. Last week, the company launched Carbonite Business, a solution with a low, flat-rate pricing model specifically designed to address the backup requirements, budgets, security and accessibility needs of small businesses.
"I very much appreciate this recognition, but I know that it's more about the success of Carbonite than about me personally," said Friend. "Everyone needs to back up their computers and our team has made Carbonite one of the best ways to do it. This prestigious award really goes to everyone at Carbonite for terrific execution over the last five years."
Carbonite launched its online backup solution in 2006. In 2010, Carbonite was ranked the ninth fastest growing private company in the U.S. by Inc. Magazine in its Inc. 500 list, and Friend was named as the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year winner for New England in the Consumer and Small Business Emerging Technology category.
The American Business Awards are the nation's premier business awards program. All organizations operating in the U.S. are eligible to submit nominations -- public and private, for-profit and non-profit, large and small. Winners were selected from the finalists in each category by members of 10 specialized final judging committees. More than 200 executives across the country participated in the judging process to determine the finalists and Stevie Award winners.
The gala event benefited Camfed (camfed.org), which fights poverty and HIV/AIDS in Africa by educating girls and empowering women to become leaders of change. Details about The American Business Awards and the lists of honorees in all categories are available at www.stevieawards.com/aba .
