TLC’s “Extreme Couponing” Airs its Finale Episode for Season One

Sunday 19 June 2011

The popular reality show “Extreme Couponing” will be airing its finale episode this June 15.
In the episode, the show will be featuring two families who, aside from saving big amounts of money, use coupons for other purposes, as well. For instance, one of the featured families use couponing as a tool to help teach their home-schooled children valuable lessons in math and reading.
Recently, supermarket guru.com’s Phil Lembert reported that “Extreme Couponing” has actually been causing harm to both consumers and grocery stores. According to Lempert’s report, because of the show, grocery stores are now in a scramble to revise its policies on coupons in order to remain afloat despite the flood of coupons that have been presented at their stores. These grocery stores also incur additional expenses sending in the coupons to the manufacturers. Lempert’s report also stated that the coupon craze brought about by the show has caused consumers some undue pressure and stress. Consumers feel pressured by the need to clip more and spend less. Although the thought of spending less money is very good, consumers however, feel disappointed when they are unable to save as much as what expert couponers featured on the show were able to save. Lempert stresses that every amount, how big or little it may be, is always important.
Undoubtedly, despite a number of reviews and criticisms, the show has been well-received by the viewing public. Proof of this are the high ratings that the show has been getting since it aired its first few episodes. “Extreme Couponing’s” season finale will air at 9:30 on the evening of June 15 on TLC.
